Payman Hamed was born in 1975 in Tabriz, Iran. Being in a calligraphers’ family, he showed great passion to this form of art ever since he started reading and writing as early as age six. His father, who was his first calligraphy teacher, was a student of “Mirza Taher Khoshnevis” (1888-1976)* the famous Quran calligrapher. He taught him the basic rules of Nastaliq; very soon he was good in handling reed pen and ink.

In 1986 he met “Mahmoud Malmasi” (1917-1992)** the Persian poet and calligrapher. He inspired him to follow his passion in calligraphy by giving him a piece of his own handwriting.

After a few years of self-study, in 1992 he attended master Beyzaavi’s calligraphy classes in Iranian Calligraphers’ Society***. He received certificate of accomplishment from this society and has been a member since 1996. Art exhibition, research, and teaching Persian calligraphy became his major interests since then.

He held a number of group and solo art exhibitions and conducted seminars and workshops about the art of Arabic and Persian calligraphy.
